COVERGIRL is Now Cruelty Free!

maxresdefaultIMG_7319-e1529190865103

I never thought I would see the day where a huge drug store beauty brand like COVERGIRL would announce their cruelty free status and Leaping Bunny certification. This is such an incredible step for the beauty industry. With a brand as popular and influential as COVERGIRL, they now have the power to bring more awareness to cruelty free beauty. I hope that this inspires other popular drug store brands like L’Oreal to make the change.

What do you think about COVERGIRL’S change? Will you support COVERGIRL?

Subculture $24 at TJMaxx!

image1 (1) copyimage2

When the Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture palette launched last year, the internet blew up with negative reviews. It seemed like no one could get this palette to work for them. People complained that the shadows were too pigmented and that they didn’t blend well together. Due to all the negative reviews, I immediately crossed this off my wish list.

I was in TJMaxx the other day and I decided to browse through their makeup section. Usually they have no name brands and the makeup is broken and in terrible condition. On the bottom rack, there it was. I saw the teal package peak out from behind a black palette. I couldn’t believe there was one Subculture palette. I looked at the price tag on the back and couldn’t believe it was only $24. I proceeded to open the packaging, anticipating being disappointed by a shattered palette. To my surprise, the palette was in perfect condition. I realized that I had to try this palette for myself, especially since it was only $24 opposed to the $42 it normally retails for.

To make a long story short. I tried this palette and I LOVED it! I didn’t have any of the issues people complained about. The shadows were very pigmented but I had no issues blending them out. I did a look taking the gray shade Mercury through the crease and smoked Rowdy all over the lid. It was beautiful and they blended together perfectly. I also did a halo eye starting with Dawn all over my lid, Fudge in the crease, Adorn on my lid and Density on the inner and outer corners of my eye.

I’m not sure why I had no issues with the palette and so many others did. All I can say is that if you have been wanting to try this palette but have been deterred by the negative reviews, try it!

Do you have Subculture? What did you think?

Unpopular Makeup Opinions Tag

I was watching my daily dose of Youtube yesterday and I came across a new tag called Unpopular Makeup Opinions. I thought it would be fun to answer these questions in a blog post and I encourage you guys to answer them as well. I feel like I have unpopular opinions when it comes to makeup, so this should be interesting.

Q1: Popular makeup product you don’t like.
A1: False Lashes
makeupcompostgraphicshero5HistoryFalseLash12918

False lashes are a makeup/beauty product that I cannot get on board with. My everyday makeup look is natural since I work an office job. I also just prefer natural makeup opposed to full glam. Another issue I have with false lashes is that I can’t get them to look good on my eyes because I don’t have a lot of lid space. I know you are supposed to trim lashes, but when when I trim them, they still touch my eyebrows and I look ridiculous.

Q2: Popular makeup product/brand that everyone else seems to hate but you love.
A2: Kat Von D Beauty
KAT-VON-D-2

It appears that Kat Von D has been in the hot seat for her recent anti-vaccination statement. Because of this, Kat Von D Beauty is taking a beating with many people boycotting the brand. I really enjoy her products and her perfumes are some of my favorites on the market. I don’t think that her opinions would deter me from her brand.

Q3: Makeup collab you didn’t like or were not interested in.
A3: DESI X KATY Dose of Colors Collab
Screen Shot 2018-10-03 at 8.26.29 AM

This is the second collab that Youtubers Desi Perkins and Katy DeGroot did with Dose of Colors. I wasn’t interested in their first collab and I’m not interested in their second. I don’t know what it is about Dose of Colors but the brand doesn’t captivate me. Everyone seems to be obsessed with their liquid lipsticks so I finally tried one and I hated it. The formula was super dry and it cracked and balled on my lips. Another deterrent for me is when brands are only available online. Dose of Colors sells some of their products at Ulta, but I don’t think this collab will be available in store.

Q4: Popular makeup step that you never do.
A4: Contour
contouring_makeup_trend_good_or_bad

I almost never contour my face, instead I bronze. I never got into contouring because I didn’t like a cooler tone on my face and I usually don’t have enough time. I find that I can get the job done just bronzing my face.

Q5: Popular beauty influencer you don’t subscribe to/watch.
A5: Laura Lee
laura-lee-1

Even before the recent “scandal” which I didn’t care about and didn’t change my opinion about Laura Lee, I never watched her. I watched her once and I immediately did not vibe with her.

Q6: Popular makeup product/brand that you don’t use/support anymore.
A6: Brow Gel
BoyBrow_Carousel_01

I used to always use brow gel alone or after filling in my brows. Of course I bought the ABH clear brow gel because it was so hyped. Now I find that I don’t like what brow gel does to my brows. After applying my pomade, if I apply gel on top, it separates my brow hairs creating gaps and essentially erases anything the pomade did.

Q7: Makeup trend that you have no interest in trying.
A7: Over-lining Lips
4986ba2c7f908d590d6166f3747bddce

I have tried over-lining my lips once and I never did again. It looks ridiculous on me, I don’t know why. Unless someone can show me how to do it properly, I have no interest in trying this again.

Q8: Makeup product that was better in theory than when you used it. Either swatched better or worked better on others than on you.
A8: Roll on Eyeliner
Eye_Eyeliner_StrokeofWow_PitchBlack_600

Roller liner seems to be rolling their way through the beauty industry. A lot of brands have come out with their own pizza cutter eyeliners and I have to say, these do not work. Although it’s a cute idea, it’s a total gimmick that I could not get to work. You definitely don’t need this. I got the Butter London Stroke of Wow liner in my Boxycharm so I figured I’d try it. Let’s just say, I probably won’t be using this guy again.

August Favorites

The Body Shop Banana Body Yogurt

2521345

This has been my go-to body moisturizer for Summer especially in August. The consistency of this is so cool. It literally looks like yogurt. It’s a gel based lotion that goes on so smooth and dries almost instantly. Lotions that dry fast are a must for me. I hate the feeling of lotion on my skin especially when I need to get dressed after applying. This is so light-weight and sinks into your skin fast. The smell is incredible as well. It smells just like banana pudding and the smell lasts on your skin for hours. When I apply it at night, I can still smell it the next morning. Personally, I like that.

Colourpop Crème Lux Lipstick in the shade Lay Over

Lay-over-2-a_800x1200

I love the Colourpop Luxe Lips formula and Lay Over has been my staple nude for Summer. Since I am pretty tan, I gravitate towards darker nudes. The formula is very unique. It’s almost feels like a creamy powder and it lasts on my lips for a while. At first I wasn’t keen on the formula, but the more I wore it, the more I realized it’s actually very cool.

Juice Beauty Oil-Free Moisturizer

11288163-1534566723746631

This August I decided to revisit an oldie but a goodie. I discovered Juice Beauty about a year ago and this moisturizer was my holy grail. I hadn’t used it in a while because my acne had cleared up. My acne started coming back at the end of July into August so I decided to try this again. This moisturizer is apart of their blemish clearing range and it definitely works. A little goes a long way because it is a rather thick formula. I love that this hydrates my skin and also treats my acne. Definitely a great clean, organic skincare option for fighting acne.

Too Faced Tutti Frutti Fruit Cocktail Blush Duo in the shade Cherry Bomb
m_5b89408ade6f62ac2e104c9b
I got this blush towards the end of August but it quickly became my favorite blush of all time. When Too Faced announced their Tutti Frutti collection, I was at first hesitant because Too Faced had been launching products left and right. I thought to myself, uhh another fruit collection. Their peach products were a huge hit but it seemed like people were getting tired of them. There was something about the Tutti Frutti collection that drew me in. I knew I had to try one of the blushes. I opted for the cherry blush because I thought it would transfer well into the autumn season. This blush is incredible. It gives your cheeks are beautiful cherry wine flush and the shimmer side acts as a highlighter that melts perfectly into the blush. I highly recommend these.

July Favorites

BECCA x Chrissy Teigen Endless Bronze & Glow
BC_92576_800x800_3
This highlighter has quickly become my favorite highlighter ever. It includes three shades, two highlighters and a bronzer. I swirl my brush through the whole pan and it gives me the most incredible, warm glow. It looks wet on my skin and it doesn’t accentuate texture. Some people were concerned that the bronzer would mix with the highlight and look weird. I can tell you, it doesn’t do that at all. I don’t want to say the bronzer get’s lost on your face, but the product definitely shows up as a true highlight.

Farmacy Clean Bee Ultra Gentle Facial Cleanser

bee

Farmacy skincare is my favorite skincare line. After trying some of their products and loving them, I made it my mission to try more. I had been using my Juice Beauty face cleanser and I felt like my skin was building up an immunity to it. I don’t know if you ever notice that after you use a product for so long, it seems to stop working. That may just be me. The Clean Bee cleanser is so light and clean. Farmacy uses all natural ingredients so I know my skin isn’t going to get irritated. This leaves my face feeling refreshed and hydrated.

Colourpop Ultra Blotted Lip in the shades Ocean Ave and Vitamin Sea

lips

The Ultra Blotted Lip formula from Colourpop is my favorite lip formula ever. I hate the feeling of lipstick on my lips. I have always been a chapstick or lip balm kind of girl. However, I love putting some color on my lips. This formula is like nothing else. I would describe the finish as if you had a ice pop and it stained your lips. It’s not an actual lip stain, it’s still considered a liquid lipstick, but the formula is so light and velvety. You have to try it for yourself. These two knew shades are stunning! The red shade, Ocean Ave, makes my lips look so healthy and cherry stained. Vitamin Sea is a beautiful warm nude and also makes my lips look so healthy.

Marc Jacobs Beauty O!Mega Bronzer Perfect Tan in the shade Tantric 102
2
This bronzer is something special. It would say it’s like a smoothing powder and bronzer in one. It is expensive, but I definitely notice it looks different on my skin than my other bronzers. I got the darker shade because I currently have a tan. I wish Marc would release more shades because this shade is almost still too light for me.
