Pumpkin Spice Hair

I booked an appointment with my girl Alex at W Salon in Madison, CT for next weekend, and originally I was going to have her dye my hair dark brown, my usual. However, I’ve been wanting to go ginger for a long time now. My natural brown hair tends to pull red anyway so I think my hair is telling me it’s wants to be red. Here’s some deep, rich ginger color inspo…

Bob Life

If you don’t know from some of my previous hair posts, I have done a lot of damage to my hair over the years. I bleached it in the fall, and recently went back to dark brown this summer. I have fine, thin hair that does not like being long. When my hair is long, the ends get extremely thin, and stringy and break so easily.

Saturday night I was at my aunt’s who just so happens to be a hairdresser. We were talking about my hair and how the ends have been very thin lately. She mentioned a photo of a bob haircut I had posted on my instagram and she thought that would be a great haircut for me.

Two years ago, I got a botched bob haircut that was horrible. I went to some guy’s basement who my ex knew and he literally chopped my hair. It was a short bob with tons of short layers. I felt so ugly. I personally think that if you have thin hair, layers make it look thinner. I had been growing my hair out for two years and since it grows slow normally, it only grew to a little past my shoulders in two years. My layers still hadn’t grown out and I knew the only way I could start from fresh, was to cut my hair again.

So here I am, with a haircut very similar to actress, Lucy Hale right below. I absolutely love it and my hair feels so much thicker. If you have been thinking about doing a bob, I would say go for it. It’s in style and feels amazing. Plus, I think it looks super chic.

Here’s some bob haircut inspiration…

Hair Care Go-To’s

I have struggled with my hair ever since a few years ago when I noticed it starting to get very thin. There were factors in my life that I believe may have led to this and now it’s an everyday battle to figure out how to get my hair looking healthier and thicker. Although I can’t actually make my hair grow thicker, there are products I use that help make it look shinier and healthier. Here are some of my favorites that help my thin, dry, damaged hair.

Juice Organics Volumizing Shampoo & Conditioner

I am really into natural hair care and after receiving a sample of this shampoo and conditioner from Ulta, I fell in love. This helps give my hair volume and thickness without looking dry. I also feel great putting it in my hair because if you look at the bottle, there are so many bad things they don’t use.

Briogeo Be Gentle, Be Kind Superfoods Hair Pack

Let me start off by saying, “how cute are these?!” They were made to look like green juices. Please don’t drink haha. I heard about these from beauty Youtuber, Allie Glines and she raved about them. When I heard that they were formulated with super foods like apple, kale, matcha and spinach, I was super intrigued and wanted to try. These smell just like apple, it’s delicious. What I also love, is that the shampoo lathers so well. I have never tried a shampoo without sulfates that lathered. This gives you a full soapy lather which I like, because I feel like my hair is actually getting clean. This leaves my hair feeling super soft and it blow dries so shiny.

Briogeo Rosarco Blow Dry Perfection Heat Protectant Crème

Since I have thin hair, after I wash it, I have to blow dry it. If I let it air dry, it gets super thin feeling and oily the next day. Before I blow dry, I love to take a smoothing cream and run it through my hair. You only need a pea size. This helps control frizz after a blow dry and leaves my hair shiny.

OUAI Treatment Masque

This is my favorite leave-in-conditioner of all time. First off, I am obsessed with the scent. The smell lasts in my hair until the next day which is incredible. It’s hard to describe the scent because its not a fruity or floral scent, it’s just some sort of perfume scent. I use this in the shower after I shampoo my hair. You are supposed to leave it in for 10 minutes and then rinse out, but sometimes I can’t wait that long if I’m taking a shower. Even if I leave it in for five minutes, I notice a difference. My hair looks like I got it professionally blow dried. Seriously, this product is a gem!

Oribe Supershine Moisturizing Cream

I started using Oribe a few years ago when a salon I went go to used Oribe products on their clients. I absolutely love Oribe hair care. This is the most expensive product I’ve mentioned, but it’s worth it. This is another product like the Briogeo Rosarco, that you apply to your hair damp right before a blow dry. The cream is white with shimmer in it, which is supposed to help give shine to your hair. I definitely notice after I dry my hair, that it’s softer, shiner and not frizzy.

Tips on How to go Cruelty Free

A lot of people love animals and are interested in going cruelty free with their makeup. However, not everyone knows where to start. Here are my top tips on how to make the switch to cruelty free beauty and makeup products. This is exactly how I made the switch.

1
French bulldog puppy lying on the floor looking at a labtop isolated on a white background
Which companies test on animals? That is the first question we need to answer. My favorite source that will help us answer this is Cruelty-Free Kitty. Here you can find up to date lists of companies that do and do not test on animals. I recommend checking out her “Companies That Test on Animals” post. You can get an overall idea of the companies that test on animals and while going through the list, you can start to do step two!

2
Make up products on wooden background
While you are scrolling through the list of non cruelty-free makeup, I find it the perfect time to start organizing your makeup collection. You can make two or three piles. 1. Cruelty-free 2. Non cruelty-free and 3. Unsure. If you have products that weren’t listed on the website, put these in the unsure pile. You can go back later and do more specific research.

Once you have your piles you can make the decision to either continue using the non cruelty-free products and not repurchase when they are empty, or you can trash or donate the products. I know trashing the products can be difficult because you have spent money on them. That’s why I would personally either use them up or donate, just long as you promise not to repurchase.

3
Finding dupes has really made it easy for me to be cruelty-free. Once you realize that you can find a similar cruelty-free product that works the same, if not better than your non cruelty-free product, you’ve hit the jackpot! Here’s some of my favorite dupes.

Get the Colourpop No Filter concealer instead of the Maybelline Fit Me concealer.

Get the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara instead of the Lancome Monsieur Big mascara.

For a color dupe of Mac’s Velvet Teddy, get the Wet n’ Wild MegaLast Lip color in the shade Bare it All.

I really hope this was helpful for those of you who are interested in going cruelty free. For those of you who weren’t interested in going cruelty-free, I hope I inspired you to make the change. With these tips, it is simple, but if you have anymore questions, please leave me a comment.

My Favorite Purple Shampoo/Conditioner for Blondes

Now that I am “a blonde”, it has been extremely important for me to use a purple based shampoo to tone the brassy tones that arise. I have tried a few purple shampoos but none that I absolutely love except for this kick-ass duo.

I have been using Oribe products for a few years now. I love that I have found a high-end haircare line that is cruelty-free. I started using their volumizing and color treated hair products. I have also tried their Gold Lust collection which is amazing. It was only fitting that I would now try their Bright Blonde products. Both the shampoo and conditioner are purple. I had never used a purple conditioner and while I don’t think it is necessary, I wanted to try the complete set. If you only want to use a purple shampoo, that’s fine. You can use a normal conditioner.

After using Oribe products then drying my hair, I notice a difference right away. You hair is immediately, softer and so shiny! I cannot believe the amount of shine I get from these products. I haven’t been using the blonde products for very long, but I definitely can already see that the brass is staying away.

The high price tag of these products might be a deterrent for you, but if you wash your hair once to twice a week as recommended, these will last you forever. When it comes to haircare products, you really do get what you pay for.

Icy Vibes

I have been going blonde since the fall. It has been a process because I had medium/dark brown hair. It takes time because you don’t want to fry your hair. My hair is currently a golden blonde with some cool blonde pieces throughout, but I think I want to go platinum! I absolutely love how Victoria from IntheFrow rocks her icy, blonde hair with darker brows.

Unless You Got Buns Hun

My go-to hair style recently has been a bun. By the third day after washing my hair, it just doesn’t look good down. This means, it’s time to throw it up in a bun for work and make it look like I tried. The benefits of a bun is you can take “dirty” hair, throw it up or twist it down, and you are good to go. You look put together and people won’t even know you are going on a week of not washing your hair. Here’s some bun inspiration.

What’s your go-to? Low bun or high bun?
